Series winner Jarl Magnus Riiber continues to struggle with back problems ahead of the Winter Olympics.

The combined athlete is therefore also foregoing the World Cup in Klingenthal, Saxony, this coming weekend. The organizers announced this on Tuesday. The defending champion from Norway is threatened with losing the lead in the overall World Cup.

Riiber had already skipped the two competitions in Val di Fiemme, Italy, last weekend. The 24-year-old had won seven of the first eight individual competitions, but is now only 100 points ahead of world champion Johannes Lamparter (Austria) in the overall World Cup.

Riiber had recently won the crystal ball three times in a row.

The Beijing Winter Games begin on February 4th.
