Nokia and the American space technology company Intuitive Machines’ mobile phone network on the Moon is progressing, says Nokia in its press release.

Nokia and Intuitive Machines have successfully integrated Nokia’s Lunar Surface Communication System into the lander of the IM-2 mission, called Athena.

Athena is designed to carry Nokia’s Lunar Surface Communication System (LSCS) to the Moon.

Athena acts as a ship and has a central role in the project, as its function is also to enable communication and data transfer on the moon.

LSCS utilizes the same 4G mobile phone technology used in the country.

Nokia is building a network in its Bell Labs departmentwhich focuses on research and product development.

Head of Nokian Bell Labs Thierry E. Klein summarizes the purpose of the project in the announcement.

According to him, the purpose is to prove that mobile phone technologies can provide a reliable and efficient connection, which is also needed on the Moon.

The LSCS is designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the Moon, such as low temperatures, as well as the stress of the journey.
