Anyone who hopes for new music by Phil Collins should be disappointed. Like the music legend in an interview with “Mojo“Revealed, he lacks enthusiasm to publish something new.
“I keep thinking that I should go down into the studio and see what happens,” he told the magazine. “But I’m no longer hungry for it. The thing is, I was sick, I mean, very sick, ”he explains.
Phil Collins: “Genesis were a little jammed”
In the interview that appears in the Mojo April edition, the 74-year-old spoke over his early days at Genesis-and how he applied to an advertisement of Genesis, who after the exit of her third drummer John Mayhew in the Melody Maker was switched.
“She [waren] a little jammed. I remember that Pete and I were very impressed, ”says keyboardist Tony Banks about his first impression of Collins. “We were still pretty amateurish, but Phil made us sound good. He was also funny. Every time we met him, he had a new funny story ready, ”said Collins.
Early music “like a pudding”
At that time, Collins himself was not enthusiastic about the early music of Genesis. She was like “a pudding”: “It was kind of informal,” he says. “In my audition we heard some pieces of [dem ersten Album] Trespass, and it was neither one nor the other. There were harmonies that reminded me of Crosby, Stills & Nash, but if it should sound hard, like in The Knife, it didn’t look like they were really serious. “
