No more down or other feathers at Sandro parent company SMCP

The French clothing group SMCP will no longer use down of animal origin.

The parent company of the Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and De Fursac brands will no longer use down and other feathers from autumn/winter 2023, Peta Germany announced on Thursday.

The company previously confirmed its plan in an email to the French branch of the animal welfare organization. For several seasons, SMCP has also been working on the switch in favor of materials that, among other things, make it possible to replace feathers and down in each of the brands in the group’s portfolio. Two years ago, SMCP announced that it would no longer use exotic leather. Down is now the next step for the company.

Yvonne Taylor, Director of Corporate Projects at Peta UK, used SMCP’s commitment to urge other brands to follow the French group’s lead.

The animal welfare organization has long declared war on the use of down in the fashion industry, because while more and more companies are doing without exotic leather and real fur, the use of down is still widespread.
