“No longer a favorite in any competition”

FC Bayern is having a poor season by its standards. Lothar Matthäus attacked the club and those responsible sharply on Saturday.

“It’s not me who has to worry, those responsible at FC Bayern have to worry,” said the expert on Saturday evening during the top game in the Bundesliga between Leipzig and Gladbach on the pay-TV channel Sky. The 62-year-old listed: “What about the new arrivals? Did you let the wrong players go, should you have kept them? Do you have the same line and the same path with the coach?” Questions that the record champions’ bosses have to ask themselves, according to Matthäus.

And the future of coach Thomas Tuchel? “A lot of things happened,” explained Matthäus. “There are still two to three months left to play. You have the chance to progress in the Champions League, despite the defeat at Lazio. If they win tomorrow, it will be five points,” he said, taking into account the gap to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen the Bundesliga.

But Matthäus also made it clear: “They are no longer favorites in any competition. And this is a new situation for FC Bayern.” On Sunday the Munich team will meet VfL Bochum (in the live ticker on t-online).
