E. and G. were actually supposed to get 28 years, but because the reasonable term has been amply exceeded, according to the court, the sentence now becomes 27.5 years. Krystian M. was actually supposed to get 30 years, but four years have now been deducted from that.

A total of nine suspects were tried for the murder in the case, but most eyes were focused on the three who, according to the Public Prosecution Service, had played the most important role: the shooter (Delano G.), the driver of the getaway car (Kamil E.) and the person who ordered the murder (Krystian M.). The first two were sentenced to 28 years in prison in the first instance. Krystian M. received a prison sentence of 26 years and 1 month.

Kamil E. withdrew

According to the court, there is sufficient evidence to say that M. had initially accepted the assignment to liquidate De Vries, he was managed by an unknown person. Then M. gave the order to Kamil E.. E. hung around the RTL Boulevard studio looking for Peter R. de Vries. He also chased him a few times, but would never pull the trigger.

Instead, Delano G. was approached. E. was then asked to become the driver of the getaway car. On the day of the murder, he then showed G. where De Vries had to come from and where he had to commit the murder.

The court finds that De Vries was killed because of his role as a confidant of key witness Nabil B.

“He was not the only victim, Nabil B.’s brother and lawyer were also murdered. In those criminal cases, the court ruled that the motive for the murders could not be established. Here it is different. Here it is clear that the perpetrators knew that Peter R. de Vries was a confidant.”

This means that this case essentially calls for a stiffer sentence, the court says. “Because here the underworld imposes itself in its rawest form.”

Not a life sentence

But that is not sufficient for a life sentence, which the Public Prosecution Service had advocated. “That is really a life sentence, so it must be handled with extreme caution. That punishment is only for people who can never return to society.”

Some sentences for the other suspects were also lower. This means that 28-year-old Erickson O. and 26-year-old Gerower M. are now released. They were acquitted of complicity in the murder, but convicted of participation in a criminal organization. They filmed how Peter R. de Vries lay seriously injured on the street.

30-year-old Konrad W. was said to be the actual shooter, but withdrew and was ultimately not involved in the murder. However, he is held responsible for supplying weapons because he knew they would be used for the murder. Therefore, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, 4 years less than the court’s sentence.

The appeal turned out least well for another suspect, Divainy K.. The court verdict was acquittal, but he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for participation in a criminal organization. Although he has already served the sentence itself, he will not have to go back to jail.

Christopher W. and Ludgardo S. were both acquitted. S. was only sentenced to 4 weeks in prison for drug possession.
