Maarten van Rossem says that he will never sit at Eva Jinek’s talk show table again because of the bizarre comments he made about her pregnancy. “We’re not that close anymore.”

It is March 2023 when Eva Jinek is completely shocked: Maarten van Rossem discusses her second pregnancy in an incredibly inappropriate and clumsy manner in his podcast. He thought the age difference with her first child – they are about five years apart – was way too big. “I personally think she should have been a little quicker.”

Too crazy for words

This criticism earned Maarten a storm of criticism, for example from Heleen van Royen and Youp van ‘t Hek. “It’s a shame,” said the writer.

The comedian also thought it was too crazy for words. “The elderly chairman of the jury of De Slimste Mens, once a historian at Utrecht University, is publicly interfering with Eva Jinek’s family planning. You wonder whether I will come back to our country? I have more than a few doubts.”

Uterus

Eva herself was also angry about it. “I briefly considered putting my entire story on paper to correct those few embarrassing opinions. Just a little overview of facts so that everyone would realize how absurd it is that a bunch of boomers with no knowledge of the matter are interfering with what is happening in my womb and why.”

Her gynecologist advised against this at the time. “’You can do that…’ she says thoughtfully. “But maybe there are other things that are more important for you to do. Maybe that’s just not your fight.” The moment she says that, it feels like I’m taking off a musty old coat.”

Never with Eva

The incident was discussed last night The Smartest Personright after a quiz question about Eva’s avocado table. “Maarten, have you ever sat at that avocado table?” asks Philip Freriks.

Maarten: “No.”

Philip: “While you are so close to Eva.”

Maarten: “Well, things are different these days.”

What happened?

Quiz candidate Anniko van Santen is shocked. “Oh, you want to talk about it?”

Margriet van der Linden also does not know what she is hearing. “What happened, Maarten?”

Maarten: “Yes, I would like to explain it. In the podcast Tom asked me… No, he said: ‘Eva Jinek is pregnant’. It had been five years since she got number one and then I thought about my brother. My brother and I are seven years apart. In our youth, that actually means that you have no contact with each other.”

18 and 11

Such an age difference is enormous, says Maarten. “If you are 18 and your brother is 11, then he is a child and you are already courting. So then I said out of the blue, not specifically to be critical: ‘I think five years is quite a lot, because 18 and 13 is already a long distance in that phase of your life.’”

“My brother’s entire story was cut out and the TV press then said: ‘Van Rossem sawed off Jinek’s ankles because she waited too long with her second pregnancy.’ That was not my intention at all.”

Fossils

Actually, according to Maarten, it is all because of the media. “Again: I thought about my brother, and then Jinek declared after some time that she did not have to worry about the comments of elderly fossils on her pregnancies.”

Ah, so Maarten is talking about media that would take things out of context, and he himself puts words in Eva’s mouth that she has never actually used. Elderly fossil? Then make it a hypocritical fossil.
