No home race for Weidle and Co.: Women’s World Cup race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen canceled

As of: January 29, 2024 12:47 p.m

No home races for the DSV drivers. The planned women’s speed races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen were canceled for safety reasons. The weather is also further shortening the men’s calendar: two out of three races were canceled in Chamonix.

Just one day after the Alpine men brought a Super-G to the valley on the Kandahar in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, all women’s races for the coming weekend have been canceled. The reason for the cancellation is the warm temperatures, which cause poor slope conditions. In order to ensure the safety of the athletes, the races have now been canceled.

The Welberband FIS was unable to find a replacement location for the planned downhill run and the Super-G due to the short-term cancellation.

Difficult slope for men

The organizers also had to contend with warm temperatures in the run-up to the men’s competitions last weekend. After the Super-G on Saturday (January 27, 2024), some riders spoke about difficult conditions, but also highlighted the good work of the piste crew, which made two races possible on the Kandahar.

For the women’s downhill, unlike the Super-G races, two training runs would have had to take place in addition to the races. An extreme challenge for the organizers with temperatures forecast to be plus in the next few days.

Men’s World Cup in Chamonix: Two races canceled

The two men’s downhill runs for the coming weekend in Chamonix, France, were canceled on Sunday (January 28, 2024) due to temperatures that were too high. Speed specialists should ski two runs on the “La Verte des Hoches” slope on Friday (02/02/2024) and Saturday (02/03/2024).

At least the men are allowed to take part in a race on Mont Blanc: a slalom is planned for Sunday (February 4, 2024).
