Chris Columbus, who staged “Harry Potter and the Stone of the Weisen” in 2001 as well as “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Terror” in 2002, does not expect to reunite the film occupation for future projects. In an interview with the “Times”, the filmmaker explained that JK Rowling anti-trans views keep many actors from being associated with her again.
Radcliffe and Watson against Rowling
When asked whether he wanted to stage a film adaptation of the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” with the original line -up, said Columbus: “This will never happen.” He explained: “It has become so complicated with all the political things. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion. Which differs from their opinion. What makes it impossible.” He also said: “I haven’t spoken to Ms. Rowling for a decade. So I don’t know what’s going on. But I am in very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe. I’ve just spoken to him. I still have a great relationship with all kids in the cast.”
The original line -up includes Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. Both bike cliffs and Watson have publicly spoken out against Rowling’s controversy attitude. Radcliffe said last year, her views made him “really sad”. “I think of the person I met. The times we saw. And the books that she wrote. And to the world that she created – and all of this is so deeply empathetic to me,” he explained.
Rowling, on the other hand, had made it clear a month earlier that they would not be awarded the stars that were publicly opposed to them. She wrote on X: “Celebrities who have put on a movement who wants to undermine the hard -fought rights of women and who used their platform to cheer on the transition of minors can save their excuses for traumatized detrunched and vulnerable women who are dependent on separate rooms.”
Columbus criticizes HBO new edition
A new series adaptation of the Harry Potter books is currently in the works-with a new line-up, under the direction of show runner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod (“Game of Thrones”, “Succession”, “The Last of Us”). In his interview, Columbus criticized the planned series to “basically do the same thing as we do”, only with other actors.
“You have to understand that it was difficult for me when Richard Harris died and Michael Gambon took on the role of Dumbledore,” he said. “Now it is even more difficult to imagine someone else in these roles. I still see Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and Robbie Coltrane. That is part of my DNA, and I’m not going over it.”
At the beginning of this year, HBO content boss Casey Bloy had confirmed that Rowling was involved in the series, but would not incorporate her personal beliefs into production. “It is pretty clear that this is her personal, political views. She has a right to do it,” said Bloys. “Harry Potter is not secretly charged with anything. And if you want to discuss with her, you can do that on Twitter.”
