The police are not going to prosecute anyone for the disturbances in the Tuindorp district in Coevorden. During the protests against the arrival of fourteen minor status holders at the end of June and the beginning of July, things set his things on fire and destroyed, but according to the police there is too little evidence to identify suspects.
During the research, camera images were viewed and people from the neighborhood spoke. A 49-year-old woman from Coevorden has been heard as a suspect, but otherwise the investigation did not produce sufficient starting points. “It is insufficiently provisible who exactly can be held responsible for what,” the police said.
The Tuindorp district was sharp at the beginning of July due to protests against the arrival of fourteen minor status holders. Cars, trailers and piles of wood were set on fire. On July 3, Mayor Renze Bergsma decided to announce an emergency regulation. A day later, the mobile unit had to intervene briefly when the fire brigade could not work safely.
The persistent unrest made the municipality of Coevorden eventually put a line through the plans. The shelter of the fourteen girls was canceled. Mayor Bergsma called that a “devilish dilemma” at the time. According to him, the safety of the minors could not be guaranteed as long as the tensions in the neighborhood rose so high.
With the decision of the police not to prosecute anyone, the investigation into the riots in Tuindorp formally comes to an end. The file is closed for the time being, unless new instructions will be revealed in the future.
