Four weeks after the unrest in the Tuindorp district in Coevorden, the police have not yet arrested anyone.

“The investigation is still ongoing. We collect all the things we have, such as images or witness statements,” explains a police spokesperson. “That must happen very precisely. If suspects come forward, we will investigate.” The police therefore do not exclude the possibility that arrests will still take place.

At the beginning of this month, the Tuindorp district fiercely protested against the arrival of fourteen minor status holders. Cars and supporters were set on fire on various evenings. Mayor Renze Bergsma decided to issue an emergency regulation on 3 July, in which he forbade fire to fire in public places and to have weapons in his pocket. A day later, the emergency regulation was violated when a stack of wood was set on a field on the Alderman Donkerstraat. The ME was used in response to the violation.

After continuing unrest, the municipality of Coevorden finally decided to stop the plan for the daycare. Mayor Bergsma called it a ‘devilish dilemma’, but said he could not guarantee the safety of the girls.
