Nobody could have guessed that Terminal 1 of the Munich Airport would be the last concert hall that the members of Nirvana would enter together. On March 1, 1994, Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear performed their final there.
Cobain: He is dead a little more than a month later
The other European appointments were canceled when Cobain was found unconscious in a hotel room in Rome on March 4 by his wife Courtney Love; He had given himself an overdose of Rohypnol mixed with alcohol. On April 5, Cobain celebrates suicide in his house in Seattle.
The setlist of your Munich concert has two special features. Nirvana began the appearance with the cars cover “My Best Friend’s Girl”, and the band’s biggest hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, which Cobain was only able to counter sarcasm, disappeared from the song selection. “Heart-Shaped Box”, written for Courtney, is the last song played by Nirvana.

Rolling Stone Cobain only interviewed in January 1994. Read an extract here:
What do you think, how much of this physical pain did you incorporate into your songwriting?
This is a scary question, because when a person is in his life in his life, this is usually reflected in the music, and sometimes it is quite good. I think it probably helped. But I would give up everything to have good health. I wanted to do this interview after we were on tour for a while, and so far this was the most beautiful tour I’ve ever had. Honestly.
It has nothing to do with playing on larger stages or that people crawl more into our ass. It’s just that my stomach no longer bothers me. I eat too. I ate a huge pizza last night. It was so nice to be able to do that. And that lifts my mood. On the other hand, I was always afraid that I would no longer be so creative if I got rid of the stomach problem. Who knows? [Pause] I don’t have any new songs at the moment.
With every album we have made so far, we always had one to three songs from the sessions. And they were usually pretty good, which we really liked, so that we always had something we could rely on – a hit or something that was above average. So the next plate will be really interesting, because I have absolutely nothing left. I start at zero for the first time. I don’t know what we’re going to do.
One of the songs that they deleted at the last minute from “In Utero” was “I hate myelf and i want to die”. How literally did you mean that?
As literally as a joke can be. Nothing more than a joke. And that also had to do a bit with why we decided to take it out. We knew that people wouldn’t understand; You would take it too seriously. It was totally satirical, we made fun of ourselves. You imagine me as this tapped, wailing, freaky schizophrenic that wants to kill yourself constantly. “He is not satisfied with anything.” And I thought that was a funny title. I wanted to have been the title of the album for a long time. But I knew that the majority of people wouldn’t understand that.
