Tokayev thanked Putin for the “warm” response to the appeal for help

Russia sent peacekeepers to Kazakhstan as part of the joint forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) amid massive protests in that country. According to Art. 4 of the CSTO agreement, the member states of the organization can provide assistance (including military) to a country if it has been attacked from outside. The Kazakh authorities believe the protests were organized from abroad.
