BVB is under pressure in the league. Trainer Niko Kovač has commented on the situation – and also on the internal handling.
Borussia Dortmund welcomes Mainz today (from 5:30 p.m. in the T-Online Livetecker). In order to be able to reach Europe at least after the probably unreachable dream of the Champions League, the BVB has to deliver and collect points. The team is currently in 12th place in the table, has only 35 points and thus 20 points less than FC Bayern.
Before the duel, Niko Kovač commented on his situation. Despite the crisis, he told the “Bild” newspaper: “For me, the coaching office at Borussia Dortmund is a dream job. A club with great radiance, in which I already feel at home.” The coach, which has been in office since February, also emphasized: “We are in the Champions League quarter-finals.”
Next, BVB has to go against FC Barcelona there. The first leg will take place on April 9 in Spain, the second leg on April 15 in Dortmund. However, Kovač also emphasized that his team and he were “rightly criticized”. However, the team did not lose sight of the goals. Even if the premier class seems impossible in the coming season.
“There are still 24 points to be awarded. Our claim is to get the maximum out so that we can climb as high as possible in the table,” says the former Bayern trainer (2018 to 2019). He himself knew that the team lacks the consistency.
Niko Kovač also praised the contact and work with those responsible in the club. “The collaboration is very, very good. Lars Ricken is often in the training center, Sebastian Kehl is very close to me every day anyway. I regularly call Hans-Joachim Watzke,” said the 53-year-old.
