Nikkie Plessen does not understand at all that Freek Vonk stepped on an electric eel in Suriname. “Why are you doing this?”, the 39-year-old fashion designer wonders. “No, no, yes, no.”
41-year-old animal lover Freek Vonk is in Suriname to spot all kinds of animals. During a walk in some nature reserve, he accidentally stepped on an electric eel. These animals can deliver severe electric shocks and have now also attacked the TV star. In a video (see below) he screams in pain.
Not first time
Freek states that it is not the first time that he has been electrified by such a fish. “It was (unfortunately) not the first time I was electrocuted by an electric eel, but it was by far the HORST one! ⚡️ It really felt like I was standing on a living socket… What incredibly special animals they are!! 💚”
Many viewers say that they think it is a shame that Freek swears so much after the incident. “When you are under ‘tension’, you can sometimes spontaneously blurt out some curse words… 🙈,” he says.
‘Why now?’
Nikkie Plessen doesn’t understand why Freek bothers all those animals so much. “But why are you doing this?” she says on the expert stand RTL Boulevard.
Frank Dane then: “That’s his job.”

Very strong criticism
Freek also receives comments from NU.nl very strong criticism from the people. “This man should stop harassing animals,” says one Ab. “He gives children a completely wrong idea of how to deal with animals. Animals should be left alone and certainly not held or chased.”
De Witheer is especially annoyed by the risks Freek takes, because it costs a lot of money if he becomes disabled. “Paid for, among other things, by the public broadcaster, and therefore you and I as taxpayers. And soon things will really go wrong and the gentleman will have to go on social assistance,” he fumes.
