Despite strong performance in Frankfurt, Nicole Anyomi is missing in the German EM squad. There is a reason, as not only the national coach, but also the player herself emphasized herself.
She had already made the decision, now Nicole Anyomi has once again spoken to this. One day after the announcement of the squad for the European Championship by national coach Christian Wück, the national player on Instagram explained her voluntary waiver of the tournament in July.
“The past few months have been physically up and down. My knee showed me limits that I ignored too long,” wrote the player of Eintracht Frankfurt. For this reason, she decided to take part in the DFB course and thus against an EM nomination with a heavy heart.
National coach Christian Wück had originally wanted to nominate Anyomi for the youngest National League games against the Netherlands (4-0) and in Austria (6: 0). The games were the last opportunity to recommend themselves for the tournament in Switzerland (July 2 to 27). On Thursday, Wück finally presented his 23-member European Championship line-up-without the attacker.
The 52-year-old said to Anyomi’s European Championship out: “Nicole has been knee-up for some time and would like to have it healed. The impulse not to participate, came from her.” Anyomi, however, “had all the chances of being invited by us in the new season”.
Anyomi now wrote in her Instagram post: “I miss the national jersey, but now my health comes first.” She wanted to use the summer to work on her comeback. She wished her team “only the best” and emphasized: “I believe in you!”
In May, Anyomi still caused a stir around the national team when she criticized the communication of the national coach. It was “no concrete and direct exchange” recently, she said at the time. Anyomi has been waiting for an assignment in the DFB jersey since October 2024.
With 14 goals and nine templates, the 25-year-old was the best scorer in the past Bundesliga season. The European EM-AS now weighs the bitter.
