The Italian tennis legend passed away at the age of 92.

Italy’s greatest tennis legend of all time Nicola Pietrangeli has died at the age of 92.

Pietrangeli became the first Italian to win a Grand Slam singles title when he won the French Open in 1959. A year later, the man successfully defended his title. In addition, he advanced to the finals in 1961 and 1964.

According to the BBC, Pietrangeli won an amazing 48 tournaments in his career. He was considered the best Italian tennis player of all time before Jannik Sinner rose to the top. Sinner, 24, has already won four Grand Slam tournaments in his career.

Pietrangeli is so far the only Italian inducted into the tennis Hall of Fame.
