The enormous power that Santiago Caputo knew how to build during the first two years of libertarian management is today in a vegetative state. The star advisor no longer influences the day-to-day life of the Government and is close, very close, to losing his funds: SIDE, YPF, ARCA and Justicia, among the main ones. Karina Milei and the Menem cousins, “Lule” and Martín, are going for them, which would reduce Caputo’s influence to something testimonial. It happens that the President’s sister, the great adversary of the advisor in the small table of mileism, empowered herself after the unexpected victory in the October elections, whose result – with Javier’s consent – she attributed to her own merits and the territorial work of the Menems, rather than to the economic rescue of Washington that Caputo achieved thanks to his ties with the administration of Donald Trump. A biased reading of the sister as to who owns the victory.
The truth is that, with the result set, Caputo tried to collect the favor of having obtained the megaloan from the North American Treasury. First he applied for the Chief of Staff, knowing that Guillermo Francos had one foot out. But it couldn’t be because Karina filled that vacancy with Manuel Adroni, the former spokesperson, a soldier of hers. Caputo’s plan B was to propose himself as his superminister of the Interior because the holder of that portfolio, a disciple of Francos, was also going home. He was not given it either because his sister blocked that position for him with the appointment of the former yellow and now “karino” Diego Santilli. Conclusion? The star advisor, who recently spoke of a “take over” of the Government on his part, continues without a formal position, lingering in the shadows, and with his boxes in the crosshairs of his internal rivals.
If Caputo still does not resign – because it seems that Karina is pushing him to do so – it is because he is supported by the President, who, in his particular psychology, considers him a bosom friend. Javier does not want to get rid of the advisor, but he does not know how to defend him in the face of his sister’s advance. Almost a family dilemma in which Caputo was trapped, and to which he exposed himself alone by trying to compete with the person who holds the emotional monopoly of the libertarian leader, his sister. An idea as good as playing with a lion’s whiskers.
