Nico Schlotterbeck lacks BVB and the national team longer than expected. The central defender should be able to play again in autumn at the earliest.
Borussia Dortmund runs from a six -month break for the injured international Nico Schlotterbeck. “It was really a shock for us. The failure weighs difficult. It will be for several months, the current forecast is half a year. We will miss it painfully,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl before departure to the quarter-final first leg in the Champions League at FC Barcelona.
Defense chief Schlotterbeck has suffered a meniscal tear in the left knee and was already operated on Monday evening. “Of course this has an impact on the game in Barcelona and the next few weeks,” said Kehl. On Wednesday (9 p.m./DAZN), BVB also wants to achieve a good result for Schlotterbeck. “We will try everything to give him a little pleasure in front of the television,” said Kehl.
To do this, the Borussia had to “go into play with the right attitude of the former national coach Hansi Flick”, Kehl said: “We will have to be brave, also have possession times in order not to give Barcelona too many rooms.” Kehl nevertheless expects the host to “dominant football”: “But we have to create switching moments against their high line of defense. They will offer rooms.”
