Madrid will be able to buy out the Argentine in the summer, but if a huge offer arrives first, they reserve the right to match it

Everyone is crazy about Paz, whose name is Nico, he is 21 years old and plays for Como but is already betrothed to Real Madrid, even if the big names in football have not yet resigned themselves. The goal and the (beautiful) assist he scored last Sunday against Juventus put him even more in the spotlight, rekindling the interest of those who had already counted him in the summer. The paradox is that a player who is now worth at least 70 million (that’s how much Tottenham had put on the table) in June will earn Como only 10 million (with a capital gain of 4, having paid him 6) if Casa Blanca decides to exercise the right of buy again put in black and white on the contract.

Spanish derby

Nico is Argentine but was born in Tenerife, where he started having fun with the ball and at 11 years old he was at the center of a transfer derby: Atletico liked him, but Real managed to get in and convince his father Pablo, former Argentina defender and now the boy’s agent, to choose Los Blancos. At 18 he made his debut in the first team with Real, also scoring in the Champions League (which he later won) in the 4-2 victory over Napoli, and when he was not yet twenty he moved to Lake Como, where he quickly became a star, signing a contract until 2028.

the three clauses

A complex agreement, which includes three types of clauses. The first expired in June 2025 and guaranteed the repurchase of the player by paying 9 million. The Spanish club will be able to do the same in June 2026 by putting in an extra million, while in 2027 the clause would rise to 11 million. A paltry sum, considering the current value of the player, who in just one season in Como has grown by 50-60 million.

in January

On paper, everything seems already decided: in June, unless there are sensational changes in direction, Real Madrid will exercise the clause and bring Nico back to the base for 10 million, with the freedom to decide whether to keep him (the level of competition is very high in Madrid) or sell him. What will happen instead if someone shows up in January, offering a monstrous sum? In that case, Real Madrid can match the offer (another option provided for in the contract), which would be anything but convenient, given that in June they could take it back by spending much less, or pocket half the purchase price, having also retained 50% on a possible resale.

Tottenham interest

The advantage for Real is that relations with Como are excellent but above all the club does not need to raise cash. The common desire is to keep Nico in Italy until the end of the season, also because Cesc Fabregas’ team, defined as “pretend small” by Igor Tudor, has European ambitions and without Paz everything would become more difficult. In June Tottenham came forward but the Indonesian owners did not give in to the 70 million offered by the English. Which in January they could make up for it, but at the moment they wouldn’t find any big openings.

and in Italy?

However, it is unlikely that any Italian will be able to target him: the news of Inter’s interest has spread from Argentina, also thanks to the good relations between the father-agent and Javier Zanetti, former national team teammates, which however has not been confirmed: Nico is considered an out-of-budget investment for the Nerazzurri club. Abroad, however, they are keeping an eye on him and Real know that in January they will have to form a common front with Como to repel the attacks.
