Nick Woltemade was always compared to him at his previous club. Now the striker met his “namesake” Peter Crouch.
After his first brace for Newcastle United in the duel against Chelsea FC (2-2), Nick Woltemade scored against former English striker Peter Crouch. “I’m seeing you for the first time today. My old club colleagues in Germany used to always call me ‘Crouchy’,” said a visibly pleased Woltemade to today’s TV expert on TNT Sports.
“That’s because you’re such a good-looking guy,” the former England international said with a laugh, to which the 23-year-old replied: “We’re both good-looking, right?”
The two tall strikers (Crouch is 2.01 meters tall, Woltemade is 1.98 meters tall) were in great shape. The 44-year-old cult striker laughed and hugged the second, much younger “Crouchy” with the words: “My son! It’s so nice to see that my son is doing so well,” and then later added seriously: “You’re doing so well, it’s a joy to watch you.”
By the way, there was no photo together afterwards. The two “Crouchys” had already done this during the TV recording immediately before the interview because they obviously couldn’t wait. Crouch posted the video of the interview on X, with his comment: “I love this guy.”
Previously, Crouch, who played for Liverpool FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City among others in his long career, had seen Woltemade’s next convincing performance. Despite league goals six and seven from the former Bundesliga striker (Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart), Newcastle ultimately couldn’t get beyond a draw against Chelsea.
