Athletics – Nick Smidt has again won another gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Apeldoorn. The Assenaar won the 4×400 meters with Eugene Omalla, Isaya Klein Ikink and Tony van Diepen.

Smidt was the second runner for the Netherlands, he took over from Omalla. Smidt started in the lead, saw three men come alongside and then conquered the lead again through a handy catch -up action on the inside of the track.

Klein Ikink and Van Diepen then managed to hold the lead. The Netherlands finished in 3.04.95 for Spain and Belgium. It is the third time in a row that the men win a medal in this section at a European Indoor European Championship. The team won gold in Torun 2021 and bronze in Istanbul 2023

Last Thursday, Smidt took a gold medal on the 4×400 meter mixed relay. Then he ran the final with Femke Bol, Eveline Saalberg and Tony van Diepen.
