Will we hear about a new record from Cave today? Or what’s “Wild God” all about?
Nick Cave is open his website released a clock with a countdown. What will happen when the time is up is still unclear. On the website you can only find the title “Wild God” – what does that mean?
Announcement of a new album?
Cave also posted the link to the page on his social media channels. The countdown will have its finale at 6:15 p.m. on March 6th. Many fans are now speculating that an album announcement will follow after the countdown is complete and that “Wild God” may be the title of the record. The first LP rumors about this were already in 2022, when the Australian musician confirmed that he had started the writing process and then announced in July 2023 that the LP was nearing completion.
According to Cave, the new work will take a completely new direction. “The new record won’t sound anything like ambient, but I don’t see them just going back to rock’n’roll. “I just don’t know how to do it anymore,” he explained. There has not yet been a release date.
More speculation
However, the countdown could also refer to a completely different project. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, for example, are also involved in the new biopic of Amy Winehouse and are providing the soundtrack to the film. This will be released on April 12th, which is why a news report regarding “Back to Black” would also be conceivable and “Wild God” could be a song title.
A television adaptation of Nick Cave’s novel “The Death of Bunny Munro” is also currently being planned. Actor Matt Smith has already been confirmed in the lead role, but more concrete information has not yet been provided.
Another recent project Cave released was a cover of the song “La Vie En Rose” for Jack Antonoff’s “New Look” soundtrack. However, the cover seems to be the singer’s only involvement in the project and is therefore probably not relevant to the countdown.
Or is it ultimately just a big tour announcement from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?
