Nick Cave and Warren Ellis set the life of Amy Winehouse to music

The score for the biopic “Back To Black” has a Bad Seeds touch.

“Back To Black”, the biographical film about the life and death of the singer of the century Amy Winehouse, is one of the films that people are looking forward to this year. It has now been announced that the biopic has a soundtrack by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

The singer and his most important musical companion of the last 30 years have often worked together to write film music in the past, including haunting pieces for the dark films “The Proposition” and “The Road”, the Marilyn Monroe memoir ” Blonde” and some documentaries.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” director Sam Taylor-Johnson, who worked as an artist before working on the big screen, is impressed by Cave and Ellis’ work. The British one “Guardians” she said:

“Nick and Warren were the only musicians that came to mind for ‘Back To Black’. Over the years I have listened to everything they have composed and longed to work with them. Her sensitivity and understanding of this story have resulted in a deeply moving score.”

Trustful cooperation is very important for the project: The script for “Back To Black” comes from Matt Greenhalgh, who also wrote the script for Taylor-Johnson’s Lennon film “Nowhere Boy”. Winehouse is portrayed by Marisa Abela in the film. She became known with the HBO series “Industry” and was most recently seen in “Barbie”.

The film focuses on the singer’s rise to become a pop star, but also describes her severe addiction problems and the complicated relationship with husband Blake Fielder-Civil (played by Jack O’Connell). A first trailer can already be seen. The film opens in German cinemas on April 18th.

Amy Winehouse was found dead on July 23, 2011. The 27-year-old died of alcohol poisoning with a blood alcohol level of 4.16 per mille. In her short career she sold more than 30 million records and even more than ten years after her death, her songs are still streamed over 80 million times a month.
