“As many of you may have heard, the start of the new year has started in a dramatic way,” Bril wrote in a post on Instagram. “After a wonderful moment with the entire Jane family, Joe, one of our interns, was seriously injured in a particularly tragic way. The accident has a huge impact on Joe and his loved ones.”

At the beginning of January, Bril ran over 37-year-old intern Joe Claridge after a New Year’s party at his restaurant ‘The Jane’. Claridge, who had only been working as a sous chef at the restaurant for a week, was lying on the floor of the parking lot at the time of the incident. When Bril hit the intern, the star chef had 1.67 per mille of alcohol in his blood. Claridge, from the British island of Jersey and father of a son, is still fighting for his life.

“Continue to cooperate in research”

“I think about Joe and his family all the time, and have the utmost hope that he will make the best recovery possible,” Bril wrote. “The situation continues to receive my full attention and concern. Naturally, I will continue to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”

“The entire team at The Jane and our loved ones are extremely committed to this difficult situation. I did not expect the understanding and support from family and friends, colleagues, guests and even strangers and it gives me enormous courage. The team continues to give the very best of itself,” the message reads. “Hopefully we will soon hear favorable news from the hospital,” the chef concludes his message.
