Nicholas Latifi runs over marmot while racing in Canada

Rodents are a tradition at the Canada race, but this race weekend there was a crash that didn’t end well for one of the numerous marmots.

Nicholas Latifi was unable to evade in time when he hit a marmot with his front wing and ran over it in the 3rd free practice session for the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix. “Oh no, I got it. Damn it,” radioed the Williams driver to his pits immediately after the collision. He was still stepping on the brakes, but it didn’t help anymore.

The little black animal wanted to cross the track when Latifi ran over the rodent with his car, for which the crash did not end well.

Marmots keep appearing around the track in Montreal. The day before Latifi’s momentous encounter, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and the groundhog got lucky when they both narrowly missed each other.
