Four years ago in Abu Dhabi he was the involuntary referee of the Verstappen-Hamilton world championship match. He changed his life and now instead of competitions there is university
The world of racing is far away for Nicholas Latifi. The Canadian retired two years ago after leaving F1 in which he achieved modest results, being remembered as the involuntary referee of the world championship challenge between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. In Abu Dhabi, the last race of the 2021 World Championship, the Williams driver hit the wall, causing the Safety Car to come out: the Dutchman on Red Bull took advantage of this by overtaking his rival amidst a thousand controversies. Latifi closed that championship, the second in F1, with seven points, while the following year he didn’t get more than two points. Too little to earn reconfirmation. However, now his life has changed.
the turning point

Through a post on Instagram, Nicholas revealed that he obtained a master’s degree in economics in London: “Hi everyone, it’s been a while since my last post. I wanted to take a break to fully focus on my Masters in Business Administration at the London Business School and fully enjoy the experience without distractions. I’m happy to announce that I graduated a few months ago.” At 30, the Canadian seems to be experiencing a particularly special moment: “Having not completed a three-year degree, I didn’t know what to expect. I admit: I was quite nervous at first. I quickly discovered how warm and welcoming the LBS community was. I made friendships that I know will last a lifetime.”
GREETINGS

Latifi’s post concludes with a personal assessment: “These last two years have been among the most rewarding of my life, full of learning, growth, new experiences and memories that I will carry with me forever.” This important milestone crowns the path undertaken in July 2023, when the Canadian announced he was leaving racing to dedicate himself to studies. F1, however, does not seem to have forgotten Nicholas. Charles Leclerc’s appreciation and the compliments from Hamilton himself are emblematic. And in the meantime Latifi promises: “I’m excited about what awaits me. See you soon with other news.”
