Although natural ice is still a long way off, we are tying up our skates in this broadcast of NH Sport. At the Jaap Edenbaan in Amsterdam we meet 74-year-old Fred van Essen who lovingly sharpens the blades of countless recreational skaters. He doesn’t go onto the ice himself. “I tried before, but I can’t skate,” he says, laughing.
The last marathon for the Vier van Noord-Holland was held yesterday on the Jaap Edenbaan. On four consecutive days, all four artificial ice rinks in our province organized a marathon competition for men and women. We were at the final match.
We also look ahead. There is a lot of cup football this week. Telstar will play against Ajax in the second round of the KNVB Cup on Thursday. It has been almost 23 years since the people of Velsen visited the Arena. Former coach Toon Beijer and former player Richard van Heulen reminisce. Beijer: “What I remember is the pure goal we scored that was disallowed. A very bitter feeling. An eternal shame.”
Egmond Half Marathon
The Egmond Half Marathon is just under a month away. The surprising winner of 2024, Lucas Nieuweboer, is also at the start again. He has prepared himself for a special location: Spitsbergen. You will see how and why in this episode.
