Both proponents and opponents doubt whether a fireworks ban can be maintained. Only a quarter of the NH news panel think that this is possible, although they also think that more money should be allocated.

‘Maintaining difficult, but fireworks ban gets used to it’

Many panel members think that a fireworks ban will reduce nuisance over the years. “First there will be more unrest, but in the end it saves a lot of hassle,” says Jolanda from Castricum.

Castricummer René also shares that opinion: “If the stocks are used up and people are used to firemelessness, things will be fine in the long term.” Opponents find a ban pointless, as long as fireworks in many other European countries – and sometimes all year round – is just for sale.

To meet fireworks enthusiasts, NSC argues for organized fireworks shows. That is already happening in Amsterdam, for example. A little more than half of the panel members surveyed supports that idea, 21% call it a reasonable solution, while almost a quarter feel nothing for it.
