With AJ Brown, the New England Patriots acquired a new number one receiver via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles last week. According to some media reports, with the signing of the 28-year-old, Kayshon Boutte’s days with the Super Bowl participant could be numbered. But that would probably be a big blow for the 24-year-old.
“There’s just a lot of speculation. I’m just trying to get an overview,” Kayshon Boutte explained on Sunday WBZ-Reporter Dan Roche, who confronted him about the trade rumors that were already circulating before the arrival of AJ Brown. In response to the speculation, the receiver initially stayed away from the New England Patriots’ voluntary training sessions.
But he didn’t want to be influenced too much by the rumors surrounding him, the 24-year-old added, referring to his absence from the workouts: “I still continue to work, even if I’m not there. That’s what I concentrate on.” If Boutte had his way, he would be a New England Patriots player for a very long time.
NFL: Boutte “likes it” with the Pats
“I would like to spend the rest of my career in New England,” the pass receiver made clear: “I like it here. I’ve been here for three years. I’m here every day. I call this my home. This is my new home. I grew up in Louisiana. I was there for 20 years, but now Boston is my life.” After Brown’s signing, his future is more open than ever.
But Boutte is very enthusiastic about the new addition. “He’s a great guy,” enthused the 2023 sixth-round pick: “He’s a great X-receiver, dominant. Whether it’s a long pass, a short route – he can catch a slant and carry it to the end zone. Huge body. Catches under duress. You know, you watch these guys.”
Last season, Boutte caught 46 passes for 551 yards and 6 touchdowns. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
