Manuel Neuer was back on the pitch for the first time at the public training session in Winston-Salem. The keeper made a good impression – just in time for the start of the World Cup.

Manuel Neuer started training with the German national football team after his calf injury. The 2014 world champion stood on the pitch in front of 3,000 fans at the DFB selection’s public meeting on Monday evening (local time) in Winston-Salem. He flew after the balls and made a good physical impression. This means that nothing should stand in the way of playing in the World Cup opener against Curaçao on June 14th in Houston.

The 40-year-old was surprisingly brought back into the DFB selection by national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the XXL tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. However, Neuer injured his calf on the last Bundesliga matchday on May 16th. Oliver Baumann, who had been moved back by Nagelsmann, stood between the posts in the international matches against Finland (4:0) and the USA (2:1).

Nagelsmann had already announced after the test against the USA in Chicago that Neuer would be fit for the game against outsiders Curacao. “He doesn’t have to get used to it at his age. He can handle a pressure situation,” the national coach explained.
