Tom Brady is the most successful quarterback in NFL history. Now his ex-club has given him a monument.
Tom Brady is now immortalized in front of the New England Patriots stadium. The former quarterback was the first ex-player of the club to receive its own statue. The 48-year-old was honored for his six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots. The bronze image was unveiled on Friday before the preparatory game against the Washington Commanders.
The statue is 12 feet high (about 3.66 meters) – to match Brady’s rear number. With base she reaches 17 feet (around 5.18 meters), as a memory of the 17 titles in the AFC East, which Brady won with the team.
Brady thanked for the honor and in his speech made some jokes at his own expense – but was also unable to resist a few humorous tips against former companions. Five days after his 48th birthday, he did as if he took a call from his former coach Bill Belichick and then said, alluding to the always critical coach: “He thinks there is still room for improvements.”
Brady also joked that he is now in front of the stadium for all times as frozen, something he could never have reckoned with – but somehow also appropriate to his pace. The seven-time Super Bowl champion-after saying goodbye to the Patriots with the Tampa Bay Buccaners-had to hear criticism of his lack of sprint strength over the course of his career.
