In November, the NFL will stop in Berlin for the first time. The teams involved have some German players in the squad.

A new chapter for the NFL in Germany: For the first time, a game of the North American football league takes place in Berlin. On November 9, the Olympic Stadium welcomes the encounter between the Indianapolis Colts and the Atlanta Falcons. This was announced by the NFL on Monday afternoon.

For the Colts it is already the second appearance on German soil. Two years ago they won 10: 6 against the New England Patriots in Frankfurt. In Berlin they now appear as a home team – this was announced in January. For the Falcons, on the other hand, it is the premiere in Germany. Ticket sales for the so -called “Germany Game” should begin in the coming weeks.

The game in Berlin is part of the “International Series” of the NFL, in which regular season games have been played in Germany since 2022. After two games in Munich and Frankfurt, it is now the turn of the capital. A total of up to three NFL games are to take place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The cooperation is created until 2029.

The Berlin Senate puts the cost of the event at around 12.5 million euros. The city hopes for positive effects for tourism from the commitment. Sportsenator Iris Spranger had already pointed out the economic impulses of the games in Munich (70 million euros) and Frankfurt (110 million euros).

The game could become a special experience for three German football professionals. The Brandenburger Tight End Maximilian Mang has recently been under contract with the Colts. According to Marcel Dabo, the 25-year-old is the second German in the team of the team from Indianapolis.

German players are also represented at the Falcons: Kicker Lenny War and Offensive Tackle Kilian Zierer are part of the line -up. Germany’s NFL boss Alexander Steinforth therefore called the encounter “probably the most German game, which we had so far on German soil-or the most German-speaking”.
