FC Bayern suffered a bitter defeat in the Anthony Gordon poker game. It could not be the only transfer defeat this summer. The Munich team’s chances at Givairo Read are also apparently dwindling.
As the Dutch portal “1908NL” writes, Manchester City is now in pole position when it comes to the defensive talent of Feyenoord Rotterdam. The English runner-up is showing very concrete interest in the 19-year-old right-back.
FC Bayern still has Read in mind, but has now been pushed into the second line. In Rotterdam they are said to be open to selling the defender.
What would be necessary, however, would probably be a transfer fee that would make Read the club’s record sale. So far, Igor Paixao’s move at Feyenoord holds the record. The Brazilian moved to Olympique Marseille in 2025 for around 35 million euros.
At the end of the season, Read himself had fueled speculation about his future. “It’s no longer a secret that clubs are watching me and that a change could be on the cards in the summer. I don’t want to keep that secret either,” he said on “ESPN” after Feyenoord’s last home game.
FC Bayern comes away empty-handed with Gordon
At FC Bayern, they are currently working more intensively on personnel reinforcements for the right side of the defense. In the past season, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic mostly covered the role.

Laimer in particular is actually at home in a different position. Due to the departure of Leon Goretzka, he could now be used more in his usual position in midfield.
With Raphael Guerreiro, another player who has already helped out as a right-back under Kompany is leaving Munich in the summer.
It was still rumored in the spring that FC Bayern could really step up the pace with Read. Recently, the bosses at Säbener Strasse hesitated.
It was only on Friday that the record champions missed out on a suspected dream player: offensive player Anthony Gordon was long considered a hot transfer target for FC Bayern. But the Englishman was now drawn to FC Barcelona.
