Hertha BSC failed the dress rehearsal about a week before the start of the competitive game in the DFB Cup.

The Berliners lost the friendly at the end of their training camp in England at second division West Bromwich Albion 1-2 (1-0). Striker Davie Selke gave the Bundesliga soccer team a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on Saturday. John Swift equalized for the English in the 70th minute, Daryl Dike (73rd) turned the game around a little later with his goal.

It was Hertha’s third defeat in England, having also lost to Derby County and Nottingham Forest. Hertha’s new signing Chidera Ejuke came on in the 62nd minute and made his first appearance for the capital club.

On Saturday, the Herthans had previously completed two test halves against the U23 teams from West Bromwich Albion and Watford FC – mainly with other players from the squad. The Berlin side were 1-0 up against the hosts West Brom after 45 minutes and defeated Watford 4-0.

Hertha BSC had been training with new coach Sandro Schwarz since July 12 in Burton-upon-Trent at the English national team’s training camp at St. George’s Park.

Next weekend, the Berliners will play second division promoted Eintracht Braunschweig in the first round of the DFB Cup on Sunday (6 p.m.). On August 6th, the Hertha team will go to the Bundesliga opener to their city rivals 1. FC Union Berlin (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
