Those responsible at Borussia Dortmund around sports managing director Lars Ricken are angry against FC Augsburg (0: 1) after the embarrassing performance. According to the ex-professional, head coach Niko Kovac is not to blame for the recent misery at BVB.
BVB boss Lars Ricken does not even want to leave a new coach discussion. “Niko Kovac, which unfortunately was already there under Edin Terzic and Nuri Sahin, could not make it disappear within a few weeks,” the 48-year-old took protection on “Bild” the chief coach of the black and yellow after the defeat against Augsburg.
Ricken also emphasized that there was already an “upward trend” under Kovac: “This was seen in the 3-0 in Lisbon, 2-0 against Pauli and also in the 6-0 against Union. It is definitely not the coach!”
Borussia Dortmund started the season with Nuri Sahin and big ambitions after Edin Terzic resigned after the lost Champions League final. But under the original Borussia there was no success, after a defeat in the premier class at FC Bologna, he was released.
No trend reversal at BVB under Kovac
After the quite successful bridging time under interim solution Mike Tullberg, Niko Kovac took over the management of the team in early February. Despite the progress in the Champions League playoffs and the two zero-zero victories in the league against Union Berlin and FC St. Pauli, a real trend reversal, Kovac’s balance is three wins, two draws and three defeats.
Ricken described the most recent appearance against Augsburg as “not acceptable”, the team obviously did not get the change from the Champions League to everyday league life.
The managing director, who, together with sports director Sebastian Kehl, ordered the players for the report on Sunday, demands that the team show “finally fighting spirit and the will to win” before the round of 16 second leg against OSC Lille (Wednesday, 9:00 p.m.).
