News | “Mr. Ho”: Korean cuisine

It may have happened to him once with sushi or chaufan, but today he is surely a fanatic. The unknown scares us until we taste it, enjoy it, and then we want it: that’s going to happen with Korean cuisine, guaranteed. Are you afraid you don’t know what to ask for? In Mr. Ho they will guide him patiently and, believe it or burst, he will find out that there are ravioli, noodles, milanese and rice with egg… in a Korean version, of course.

The “ravioli” are called mandu -gyosas in Japan, dim sum in China- and they are stuffed with vegetables or pork, steamed or fried. The noodles -there are two types: udon, wheat; and those of sweet potato, translucent and finite – they are eaten in soups or sautéed with vegetables, tofu, meat or seafood.

The milanesas are called donkas: they are made of pork and panko empanadas. Rice with egg is bibimbap, one of the most famous dishes in Korean cuisine: a base of white rice in a bowl with sautéed vegetables, marinated meat and a fried egg on top. A familiar and friendly flavor, which can be complemented with kimchi, a spiced fermented cabbage that comes as a side.

There are also options that do not find their western equivalent (and less Argentine) but there is no need to fear either. Tokbokki, for example, are small cylinders of rice dough, typical of Korean street cuisine, served with fish sauce, vegetables and eggs. Spicy is optional in all dishes but there are some, like Ojingo Deopbab (sautéed squid), that lose their charm without it.

As in all Asian cuisine, there are few desserts. The Samanco “an alfajor” in the shape of a little fish stuffed with cream ice cream and aduki beans, has the perfect sweetness to close. To drink, the traditional is soju (a distillate) or makgoli, a delicious rice wine with low alcohol content.

Mr. Ho and his family were one of the favorite participants in “Families Frente a Frente”, the Telefe reality show. The warmth and harmony that conquered the public are felt in his restaurant.
