The Newcastle United professionals greeted the league cup exuberantly received the league stadium on Sunday in the Wembley Stadium. There was a bizarre incident in the ceremony.
The cheers in black and white knew no limits. When Newcastle United won the final for the English league cup 2-1 against Liverpool FC on Sunday, the professionals celebrated on the field of the Wembleystadions.
No wonder: it was the first national title win for the “Magpies” since the FA Cup 70 years ago.
The cup handover followed after the first ecstatic cheer. As usual with many award ceremonies, large confetti cannons were among them, which were ignited at the moment of the cup handover and rained the snippet on the winning team.
However, this was doomed by Newcastle professional Sean Longstaff. The midfielder, who was not used in the final, fluttered such a confetti snippet into his widely torn mouth when he was shouting out of his joy. On social media, a video excerpt made the round that recorded this curious moment at the award ceremony in the stands.
It can be seen on how a green confetti piece ends up in Longstaff’s mouth and it chokes. The 27 -year -old Englishman pinch his eyes together and immediately tries to remove the snippet. He involuntarily had the laughs on his side.
He will be happy to accept that. The title win was of particular importance for Longstaff, born in Newcastle. On Instagram he wrote: “A day that I have always dreamed of since I went to St. James’ Park with my family as a little boy! I am so proud that we have won the first trophy for decades and hopefully the first of many for this special team, the employees, the club and especially the fans.”
For this he would certainly have confetti excited again next time.
