Last week, six statues were stolen along the old TT street circuit in Assen, Rolde, Hooghalen, Grolloo and Schoonloo. It turned out that New Year’s Eve club De Nachtdravers from Donkerbroek, Friesland, was behind this. Rebuses have been left behind all the disappeared statues, with a reference to other well-known New Year’s Eve associations such as De Oliebol and Vesuvius. The Frisian club deliberately wanted to mislead the public, which meant that for a long time it was guesswork who was the mastermind behind the ‘art theft’. De Oliebol went one step further by also leaving a rebus at the location of the Muskee statue in front of the C + B museum.
The statue will be placed back in its usual place by De Oliebol sometime in the coming days. “We will do this in consultation with the museum. And perhaps Harry will come back even better than when he left Grolloo,” says secretary Pit mysteriously. “One of our boys already suggests that we bring back Harry and the TT statue together with the team from Donkerbroek, so we can chat in the pub there about two successful stunts.” Pit thinks it’s nice that two stunts happen to come from the same village in Drenthe.
