new USG report and new fleece collection made from recycled wool and organic fibers

The Canadian clothing retailer Canada Goose recently published its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report for 2021 on Earth Day. In this he presents the progress made in the implementation of his “Sustainable Impact Strategy”. In parallel, the Kind Fleece brand developed the next generation of fleece made from recycled wool and bio-based fibers.

The company announced self-imposed sustainability goals in 2020 that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The USG Report 2021 describes which commitments the brand has made, which it has already fulfilled and which it intends to fulfill in the future. The focus is on the materials and chemicals used, the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the supply chain, human and labor rights and the people themselves, while considering diversity and inclusion, according to Canada Goose.

materials

In terms of materials used, the brand was able to achieve two important milestones: the certification according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) in November 2021 and a ban on fur, which will no longer be bought since the end of 2021 and will no longer be in until the end of this year products will be used.

In addition, more than 20 percent of the materials used by Canada Goose have been switched to preferred fibers and materials (PFMs) such as organic cotton and recycled polyester. This relatively small percentage is expected to skyrocket over the next three years, reaching 90 percent in 2025.

Furthermore, the brand’s Bluesign certification is almost complete and by 2025 Canada Goose fabrics should also be 90 percent Bluesign certified – currently almost 85 percent have been achieved, while in the sustainability report 2020 it was 45 percent.

Also a key step is the brand’s commitment to phasing out per- and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds (PFAS) in its proprietary Arctic-Tech fabric and redesigning it by the end of 2023.

For packaging, Canada Goose has transitioned nearly 60 percent to more sustainable solutions such as recycled and eco-responsible materials and designs; When the target of 100 percent is to be reached has not yet been mentioned.

manufacturing and operations

The brand remains committed to its goal of achieving net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 or sooner, using a three-pronged strategy: improving building efficiency, reducing carbon sources and using renewable energy.

For corporate operations, Canada Goose has once again achieved carbon neutrality by investing in projects that reduce, avoid or capture the equivalent of 200 percent of annual greenhouse gas emissions.
