Johan Derksen will stop making TV immediately. The 73-year-old football expert has the feeling that there is no longer a place for someone like him in the Dutch media landscape. “I like it that way.”
Today Inside, SBS 6’s most popular TV program, has ended with immediate effect. Johan Derksen announced in tonight’s broadcast that he will stop making TV now that he has been canceled by many parties because of the statements about his ‘youthful sin’. Wilfred Genee and René van der Gijp show solidarity and also stop.
‘Facts were wrong’
Johan puts his hand completely into his own bosom. He said on television on Tuesday that he put a candle in an unconscious woman at a young age, but he pulled it a day later. Then he stated that he had placed the candle between the woman’s legs. Despite that correction, the Public Prosecution Service has nevertheless started an investigation.
“I did it in a light-hearted way and the facts didn’t quite add up. A day later, when the turmoil broke out, you start to think and then you come to the conclusion that you were not 22 at all but 24 and it was not at those ladies’ homes but in a nurse’s home I think of a retirement home or something and that candle was so big, I put it between those legs.”

Many people think that Johan has changed his story to save his skin. “Then they say, ‘He’s pulling it back.’ No, I’ve been too hasty here without having the knowledge ready. Then great turmoil breaks out. That’s a slip of mine. I slipped. That’s stupid and for TV that’s deadly.”
Johan has had to hand in his radio show after twenty years, his theater tour has been canceled and VI’s main sponsor Toto also stops. “I got the bill today. It’s unbelievable,” he says. “I’ve been doing 125 theaters a year for five years and I’m working on the last series now; I’ve been fired everywhere as some sort of criminal.”

It is completely derailed, according to Johan. “I come home today and police at the door. When you drove into Grolloo a very large banner: ‘Rapper.’ The police took it away. Yes, then I think: is it worth it to me to sit here and act mentally independent?”
Johan admits that it is his own fault. “I made a rape of it myself. That girl has not been touched and no candle has been lit. That was not possible at all, because it was such a thing.”
It is striking that he has changed the story so fundamentally. “That’s because I told a story from fifty years before. I didn’t have everything ready. I had to put an end to it, it had to be creamy, but later when I thought about it…”

John stops. “I accept it, it’s my fault, I came up with that shitty story and I explained it unclearly and in the wrong tone. It is my fault. (…) There is no more room for me. Then I’d better say: guys, you still have five or ten years to go, go make Voetbal Inside together again and I’ll withdraw.”
Colleague René van der Gijp: “No, I don’t believe that. You still have ten years to go. Look at him sitting there, with his 73. Johan, we have been here for fourteen years, it has gone wrong three times: wig, Akwasi and this. Three times! It’s not that bad.”
Johan: “I believe it is better for all parties if I go to Grolloo and don’t show me anymore.”
Johan stops
Johan is serious about it. “What really pissed me off this afternoon with the management is that they said we have to apologize and then they will decide how to proceed. Then I think: yes, we are sitting here doing an apology exam, lick my ass!”
He will not be lectured. “I’ve been through a few riots here and you know who are always the first to panic? The management of Talpa. They are never behind you, but they are always in a panic. They wanted to give us a note this morning about what to read. Get out of here!”
Johan wants to be ahead of a decision by the Talpa management. “I hood.”
Wilfred and René also stop. “It’s out together, home together.”
John’s last words? “I like it that way.”
