Streaming giant Netflix currently has several major projects in the pipeline. This not only shows extensive insights into the series, but also the specific start date of the Netflix production. Streaming expert Marlene Polywka assesses what is shown.

This can be seen in Netflix’s Avatar trailer

So far, Netflix has kept a very low profile with images from the fantasy series. We didn’t get to see much more than the cast and the logos of the four elements. Accordingly, this first real trailer is very revealing.

For those who only understand train stations, here is a short summary of what the series is about:

In a world where humans can control the four elements, the four great nations – Air, Fire, Earth and Water – are at war, initiated by the Fire Nation. The so-called avatar is said to be crucial for its outcome. This is the only tamer who can control all four elements. The problem: Nobody has seen the avatar for many decades. That changes when siblings Katara and Sokka discover young Aang trapped in an iceberg. The group then sets out on an adventurous journey so that Aang can master all the elements and pacify the various peoples.

First we see what appears to be Zosin’s comet and a snippet showing the attack on the Airbenders’ Temple. We also see the moment in which Aang is discovered in the ice and get a short presentation of the most important main characters: above all, of course, Aang, Katara and Sokka, but also Prince Zuko, General Iroh, Suki, Princess Azula and Fire Lord Ozai.

Scattered throughout the trailer are also glimpses of the aforementioned Air Temple, as well as the Earth Kingdom capital Ba Sing Se and what could be the Fire Nation palace.

Trailer reveals series start date

Within 12 hours, the trailer was viewed almost 3.7 million times on YouTube alone. In general, the trailer elicits a lot of positive reactions on social networks, as well as in our editorial team.

Very positive overall impression

“The first real impression we finally got with this trailer makes me personally very positive. Without wanting to reopen the debate about whether live-action adaptations of beloved animated material make sense or not, I have to say that Netflix seems to have stuck to the successful template that we all know and love in many details. The bending looks great, as do the costumes of the Kyoshi warriors and the general design of the world. The short pictures we got of the big cities, but also of the sickle island and Kyoshi, are quite impressive.

A lot of money also seems to have gone into the implementation of the sky bison Appa and the flying monkey Momo, which thankfully shows and what really made me very euphoric was the soundtrack! The only thing I still have concerns about is the costume design of the protagonists; it still looks very clean and fresh – typical for Netflix. All in all, I’m happy and am now even more excited about the series!” – Marlene Polywka, editor

At the very end of the trailer you can also see what fans have perhaps been waiting for most excitedly: namely the start date of the Netflix series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. As a result, it should happen on February 22, 2024! It is very likely that all episodes will end up on Netflix at once.
