The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) made a request to the municipality of Gooise Meren to realize temporary reception at this location. The Municipal Executive of the municipality has announced this that it agrees today. “In the Netherlands there is a great need for reception places for people who are fleeing, for example, war and violence in their home country. That necessity also feels that the municipality of Gooise Meren, to prevent harrowing situations of, for example, people who sleep outside.”
The Commission also writes that according to the Spreading Act, they must realize 389 reception places. “These two reasons require the commitment and responsibility of the municipality as a local government.”
‘Questions or worries’
Local residents of the location on the French Kampweg were informed by letter about the arrival of the emergency shelter. The college understands that this can evoke ‘asking or worries’ to people. That is why a number of meeting moments will be organized in the coming period. “By entering into a conversation with those directly involved and providing clear information, the municipality wants to contribute to a solution that is both human and future-oriented.”
The emergency shelter location will remain at the Hocrasterrein until 1 July 2027. After that, the municipality wants to realize a new school building at this location.
