On June 13, 2025, “Queen I”, the debut album of Queen, will be released in a new Blu-ray special edition. In addition to a newly mixed Dolby Atmos Sound, the new publication also offers a stereo version in 96kHz/24bit, including original backing tracks.
Brian May about the new sound gate: “This is not just a remaster”
Queen guitarist Brian May explains: “This is not just a remaster, but a new edition of the entire Queen debut album.”
The title was renamed “Queen I” to emphasize the new era of this debut. Each individual instrument has been revised to create the space sound of a live experience. A goal that the band was already aiming for when the original recording in 1973.
Immersive sound by Dolby Atmos
The new Blu-ray was mixed into Abbey Road Studios by Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J Macrae, Kris Fredriksson and Lewis Jones. For this purpose, they used so-called stems of the 2024 stereo mixes, which are intended to enable the targeted placement of individual instruments in the room.
Elements such as choirs, guitar layers or synthetic sound areas should be “experienced” without losing the compositional balance.
