New quarterback helmet to ensure more safety

More protection for quarterbacks in the NFL: The North American professional football league has introduced a special helmet for its playmakers, which is designed to better absorb shocks from contact with the ground. The league developed it together with the players’ union.

“We’ve had an increasing number of concussions among our quarterbacks over the past year,” said NFL Vice President Jeff Miller.

According to the NFL, half of the concussions suffered in the playmaker position in the game would have been from impact with the ground.

The league cited Tua Tagovailoa as a prominent example of a serious head injury from such an impact. The Miami Dolphins quarterback was out for several weeks last season.
