“This plan is suddenly there outside the permit process and the municipality has not given us the altitude,” says Robert-Jan Wille.
The operator of the party tent on the Paardenmarkt does not understand why the plans are suddenly changed so shortly before King’s Day. “We have had to meet these requirements for fifteen years and we succeed. Why would that not work in those other places?”
‘Huge consequences’
Jefrem Groot emphasizes Robert-Jan’s feeling. “This would have enormous consequences for our business operations,” says the organizer of the Kingsday party on Hofplein.
“In addition, we have been together on the ‘King’s Day table’ for fifteen years and now we have to hear this via. I think that is very special.”
Both entrepreneurs have a lot fewer visitors in their party tent with King’s Day than, for example, on Waagplein.
That is why they do not understand why it cannot be profitable there. In addition, they wonder why the municipality is still looking seriously for such a big change for the city center more than a month before the party.
