The decision comes after Flanders no longer wanted to continue to bear the annual losses of an estimated 1.5 million euros. It was clear to the city of Blankenberge that a solution was needed to safeguard the site, which has been a fixture for athletes since 1970.
“Today we have opted for a cooperation agreement and a new leasehold agreement with Urban Gardens NV. They will invest 10 million euros over the next three years and ensure that all sports accommodation remains intact,” says Mayor Björn Prasse.
