Thomas Müller and Jürgen Klopp are receiving well-known support as TV experts for the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the USA.

As Telekom announced on Wednesday, long-time BVB star Mats Hummels will also be on board as a TV expert for “MagentaTV” at the XXL World Cup. The 36-year-old completes the team with his former national team and Bayern colleague Thomas Müller and his former Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp.

Hummels will make his first appearance for the broadcaster on Friday (6:00 p.m. CET) during the draw for the twelve groups of four for the XXL World Cup.

With the signing of Mats Hummels, a real coup has been achieved, says Arnim Butzen, TV boss at Telekom: “We are setting new standards with our team of experts for the World Cup 26. The fact that we have now worked with Mats Hummels is a huge success for all of us at MagentaTV. With Müller, Klopp and Hummels, we have been able to win over real football types who will clearly express their opinions and bring the tournament closer to the fans in an entertaining way.”

BVB icon Hummels makes the “transfer triple” perfect

“Competence and entertainment” will be “perfectly combined” during the broadcast of the 2026 World Cup, says Butzen: “Our transfer triple is a central building block for this.”

Meanwhile, Hummels said in the statement that he enjoyed watching MagentaTV when his brother Jonas was at the start as an expert at the 2022 World Cup. “He told me a lot of positive things. I think with the whole crew we have with us now – in New York, but also in the stadiums – it’s going to be really cool. I’m looking forward to the World Cup, I’m looking forward to my colleagues. We’ll make it a really good thing.” The former national player has been working in the Champions League as an expert for “Prime Video” since retiring.

MagentaTV broadcasts all 104 World Cup games live – 44 of them exclusively.
