New “Exorcist” movie brought forward because of Taylor Swift

The new part of the horror franchise was originally supposed to start on October 13th, the same day as Swift’s concert film.

The theatrical release of The Exorcist: The Confession has been moved forward a week in the United States. The horror film from Blumhouse Studios will be released on October 6th instead of the 13th. The reason: Concern that Taylor Swift’s concert film will offer too much competition.

Jason Blum to Taylor Swift: “Look What You Made Me Do”

Just a few days ago, Taylor Swift announced her concert film “The Eras Tour”. The flick will feature a complete performance from the multi-Grammy winner’s eponymous tour. Fans who didn’t get a ticket for the coveted world tour are already waiting for the cinema experience.

Although autumn is predestined for horror films thanks to Halloween, the Blumhouse studio has decided to postpone the latest installment in the “Exorcist” series. It is now the sixth installment in the scary franchise created in 1973 by the late director William Friedkin. Ellen Burstyn, who starred in the original 50 years ago, even returned in the new film.

Studio boss Jason Blum announced the new start date on X, formerly Twitter. In reference to the well-known Taylor Swift song, he wrote: “Look what you made me do”.

In Germany, however, the theatrical release of “The Exorcist: The Confession” is still October 12th. We haven’t set a date for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour yet.
