James Hetfield unveils new tattoo – a slogan of Alcoholics Anonymous

James Hetfield’s neck adorns a new tattoo. This was discovered by Metallica fans on Sunday, August 27th at the heavy metal band’s second concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. There was nothing to see at the previous appearance two days earlier. Now the words “Thy Will Not Mine Be Done” adorn the right side of his neck.

The saying can be linked to religious belief and primarily points to submission to a higher power. However, the motto also appears on the American Alcoholics Anonymous website in the so-called daily affirmations, which come from the 1990 book “Daily Reflections”. Hetfield has previously had to endure withdrawal for his alcohol addiction. What the words of the new tattoo mean for the 60-year-old musician cannot be said exactly.

Metallica’s eleventh studio album, 72 Seasons, was released in April 2023. The US band is currently on their “M72 World Tour”, during which they will also be coming to the Olympiastation in Munich in May 2024.
